John William Berrrington was born in 1890 at Halifax, Yorkshire, he was the son of John Henry Berrington and Sarah Ann Berrington née Hall
His father John Henry was born in 1870 at Radford, his mother Sarah Ann Hall was born in 1871 at New Radford, they were married in 1890 at Nottingham, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early chilhood.
In the 1911 census the family are living at 49 St Pauls Street, Radford, John Barrington 41 yrs is a general labourer for the Nottingham Corporation, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 40 yrs and their children, Arthur 18 yrs a coal miner hewer, Edith 15 yrs working at home, John 13 yrs a scholar and Mabel 7 yrs of age.
In the same 1911 census he was living with his aunt and uncle Ellen and Ernest Berrington at 32 Brushfield Street Nottingham. John William 21 yrs is a printer
John William married Florence Edith Allenbrooke (born 21st June 1893) in 1912 at Nottingham, they lived at 59 Montpelier Road, Dunkirk, they went on to have a son George H born 28th January 1913,
Commencing 5th May 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 21 shillings and 8 pence a week.
Corporal John William Berrington enlisted at Nottingham, he served withthe 8th battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 19th September 1918 he is buried at Doiran Military Cemetery, Greece 1.E.9
