Robert Archibald Colley was born in 1894 at Atherstone, Warwickshire, he was the son of the late Thomas Colley a store keeper and Mary Ann Colley née Chambers.
His father Thomas Colley was born in 1850 at Shortlands, Staffordshire, he died prior to the 1901 census, his mother Mary Ann Chambers was born in 1850 at Kingswinford, Staffordshire, they were married in 1872 at Stourbridge, Worcestershire, they had 7 children,
In the 1911 census the family were living at 243 Maryvale Road, Bourneville, Birmingham Mary Ann Colley 62 yrs is a widow, she is living with her children, Edgar 25 yrs a wages clerk for a chocolate manufacturer, Thomas Augustus 17 a clerk, and two grandaughter Muriel Rose, 13 yrs general domestic servant and Alice Mabel 12 yrs a scholar.
Lieutenant Robert Archibald Colley enlisted and served with the 8th battalion Durham Light Infantry, he was attached tot he 25th battalion Machine Gun Corps he was killed in action on 22nd March 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial Bay 8
