Family history

John Cook was born in 1886 at Ely, Cambridgeshire the son of John a blacksmith by trade and Martha Elizabeth Cook (nee Gunthorpe).

His father John was born in 1830 at Wroot, Yorkshire, his mother Martha Elizabeth Gunthorpe was born in 1851 at Misterton, they had 9 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhhood.

He was married to Irene Mary Foster (born 10th January 1887 in Rotherham) ,they married in Thorne, Yorkshire in 1910 and soon after had a son William.

In the 1911 census he is 24 years of age and a chemical works labourer and living with his wife who he states have been married less than a year and their son William 4 months of age born at West Stockwith.

Following his death his wife Irene moved to live at 22 kendall Road, Hove, Sussex.

Commencing 25th March 1915 his widow was awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week.

Military history

He enlisted and served with the 1st battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment and died on 08/09/14 and is buried in Bezu-Le-Guery British cemetery, France
