Family history

William Watt Farrar was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire in 1875 the son of Joseph a doctor and the late Mary Farrar née Watt .

His father Joseph Farrar was born in 1841 at Halifax,Yorkshire, his mother Mary Watt was born in 1848 at Shotts, Lancashire, she died in 1907 aged 59 yrs, they were married on 28th December 1871 at Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland, they had a further son Joseph William Farrar born 1870.

William Watt was married to Nellie Spouncer who came from Gainsborough in Lincolnshire,they were married in Blackwell, Derbyshire in 1909 . He was educated at the Gainsborough Grammar school and went to Glasgow University where he took degrees in M B and Ch.B. He practised in Lancashire and in Devon before moving to Misterton where he was in private practice.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Misterton, he is 35 yrs and is a medical man he is living with his wife Nellie 35 yrs and a female servant.

Military history

William accepted a commission as Lieutenant in the Royal Army Medical Corps After serving for a time in Mesopotamia he was sent to India to run an army hospital In Bombay and it was while here he contracted cholera from which he died in August 1916.His name is commemorated on the Kirkee memorial in India
