Thomas Allen Troop was born in 1892 at Lound he was the son of Thomas a farm labourer and Martha Troop née Kelk and was one of 12 children of Finningly,, near Doncaster.
His father Thomas was born in 1850 at Fenton, Lincolnshire, his mother Martha Kelk was born in 184 at Hodstock, Blyth, Nottinghamshire, they were married in 1875 their marriage was recorded in the Gainsborough registration district, they went on to have 12 children.
In the 1911 census the family are living at Finningly near Doncaster , Thomas 61 yrs is a farm labourer he is living with his wife Marths 57 yrs and their children Robert John 31 yrs a farm labourer, Emily 27 yrs no occupation listed, Thomas Allen 19 yrs a farm labourer and Eliza Troop 14 yrs
Private Thomas Allen Troop was attested 11 Dec 1915 at Doncaster, he was 24 yrs of age and was a wood carter, his next of kin was his father Thomas. his was posted to the reserve, he was mobilised for war on 12th April 1916 approved by the magistrate on 13 April 1916, embarked to France 9 July 1916 and joined 10th Sherwood Foresters on 22July 1916. His promotion to L/Cpl came on the 3rd of March 1917 and four months later on the 11th July he was wounded with gun shot wounds to his right arm and admitted to hospital. After being discharged a month later, he gained his rank increase to Corporal on the 31st August and Sergeant on 25th September1917. It was six months later that he was reported missing on the 21-23 March 1918 and was recorded as being killed on the 21st. whilst holding the line near Sorrell Wood/Longeuval, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
