Edward Robinson was born in 1891 at East Drayton, he was the son of William Robinson a farm baliff and Elizabeth Robinson (née Brown) and the brother of Montague Robinson.
His father was born in 1855 at Laneham, his mother Elizabeth Brown was born in 1854 at Dunham she died in 1915 aged 61 yrs, they were married on 29th March 1877 at St Oswalds Church, Dunham on Trent they had 3 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood, their remaining child, Montague was born in 1877. Between 1891 and 1911 they lived at 6 Low Street East Drayton.
In the 1911 census the family are living at East Drayton, William Robinson is 56 yrs and a farm baliff, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 57 yrs and their son Edward 20 yrs a general labourer.
Edward Robinson served first in the 2nd Battalion and entered theatre (France) on 17 March 1915. At some point he joined the 9th Battalion. After the battles of the Somme - July to November 1916, the battalion occupied the front line near Hamel at St Pierre Divion.
The battalion had been in the front line since 17 December and on 19th, at 8 pm, 'A' company moved into the front line whilst 'B' company to the Hansa Line. It is likely that during this period Edward was killed. His body was probably buried near the trenches and re-interred in Hamel.
