Family history

Arthur Hogg was born in 1895 the son of Tom a coal miner hewer and Lucy Rebecca Hogg née Hickling and the brother of Henry, Joseph, Tom, Eliza, Violet, Lizzie, Charlotte and Florry Hogg 19 Horace Avenue, Stapleford.

Tom Hogg was born in 1863 at Grange, Derbyshire, Lucy Rebecca Hickling was born in 1871 at Underwood, married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district they went on to have 9 children.

In 1901 they lived at 17 Chapel Street Bramcote and in 1911 at 12 Horace Avenue Stapleford (both Nottinghamshire).

In the 1911 census the family were living at 12 Horace Ave, Stapleford, Tom 48 yrs is a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Lucy 40 yrs and their 9 children including Arthur 16 yrs a horse driver coal miner.

Military history

Rifleman Arthur Hogg enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Stapleford, he served in the 11th battalion The Rifle Brigade, he was killed in action on 16th February 1916, he is buried at
Essex Farm Cemetery.
