Cyril Arthur Turton
Cyril Arthur Turton was a lace worker. He was an original member of 17th (Nottingham) Beeston Company Boys' Brigade. He excelled at sport, representing the club and, later, his battalion at football.

Cyril Arthur Turton was born in 1895 at Beeston, he was the son of Benjamin Michael a leivers lace worker and his first wife the late Caroline Turton née Brooks.
His father Benjamin was born in 1868 at Beeston, his mother Caroline Brooks was born in 1871 at Sutton in Ashfield, she died in 1906 at Nottingham aged 35 yrs, they were married on 14th May 1892 at St John's Church, Beeston, they went on to have 4 children.
Following the death of his mother his father remarried on 4th February 1907 at St John's Church Beeston to Sarah Clarke born 1884 at Beeston. he was the brother of George, Doris, Mavis, Harold and Edgar Turton.
In the 1911, census the family lived at 35, Bramcote Road, Beeston, Nottingham, Benjamin 42 yrs is a leivers lace worker he is living with his second wife Sarah 27 yrs and their children, Geoerge Turton 18 yrs a leivers lace worker, Cyril Turton 16 yrs a leivers lace worker, Doris Turton 10 yrs, Mavis Clarke 5 yrs, Harold Turton 2 yrs and Edgar Turton 1 year old
Private Cyril Arthur Turton enlisted on 31st August 1914, giving his age as 20yrs and 37 days, he was a lace factory hand. He arrived at the Derby Depot on 2nd September 1914 where he was posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he landed in France on 9th February 1915 and was killed in action on 12th March 1915, having no known garave his name is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, Panels 26 7 27
