Family history

Charles Howard Thorpe was born in 1890 the son of Charles a Shetland shawl maker and Mary Thorpe née Collins

Charles was born in 1859 at Ruddington, Mary in 1862 at Hucknall. They had three children - Charles Harold b.1890 Beeston, John William b.1895 Bulwell and Matilda b.1897 at Beeston.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 21, Gladstone Street, Beeston. Charles Thorpe 52 yrs is a shetland shawl maker, he isliving with his wife Mary 49 yrs and their children, Charles 20 yrs a lace maker, John William 16 yrs was a nurseryman florist and Matilda 14 yrs is a jacker off.

Military history

Charles Harold Thorpe enlisted at Nottingham he served with C Battery 47th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, he was wounded in action and returned to England where on 18th October 1915 where he died of wounds at Bishop Knoll Hospital, Bristol. He is buried in Beeston Cemetery.
