John Stevenson was born in 1888 at Beeston, Nottingham,
He was the husband of Florence Ethel (Florrie) Gilderthorpe (born 3rd September 1889) they were married on 9th October 1909 at St Georges Church, Nottingham and the father of John Henry (Harry) Stevenson born 19th January 1910 and Cyril Leonard born 20th September 1912,
In the 1911 census the family lived at 13, Cross Street, Beeston, Nottingham John 22 yrs is a threader in a lace factory he is living with hs wife Florrie 21 yrs and their son Harry Stevenson 1 year old.
Commencing 21st May 1917 his wiodw was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 11 pence a week, at this date his widow was living at 5 Florence Street, Meadwos, Nottingham.
Private John Stevenson enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 3143 in the Sherwood Foreters Regiment, later trnsferring to the 10th batalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 31st October 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Pier and Face 9A 9B & 10B
