Family history

Charles Prowett was born in 1879 at Beeston, he was the son of Joseph a silk warper and Maria Prowett née Beardall of 55 Gladstone Street, Nottingham

His father Joseph was born in 1836 at Leicester he died in 1912 aged 76 yrs, his mother Maria Beardall was born in 1838 at Beeston, they were married on 8th July 1860 at Beeston parish church, they went on to have 10 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood.

In 1901, Prowett was boarding in Aston, Birmingham.

In 1911, he was working as a cowman at Yew Tree Farm at Walton near Chesterfield he is 32 yrs of age and is living with Joseph Allen 44 yrs a farmer and his family.

In the same 1911 census his parents are living at 55 Gladstone Strret, Beeston, Joseph 75 yrs is a silk warper he is living with his wife Maria 73 yrs and their daughter Eliza Prowett 45 yrs a cotton winder.

Military history

Corporal Charles Prowett enlisted at Devizes whilst residing at Beeston, he served with the 1st battalion Wiltshire Regiment. He died of wounds on 25th August 1916 and is buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, France. Grave Reference: III E 41
