Family history

Percy Pilmore Thorley was born in 1898 at Beeston, he was the son of Marie Elizabeth Thorley.

His mother had been born in Beeston in 1875. On 9th May 1900 she married Arthur Pilmore, a joiner by trade who had been born in 1877 at Teigh, Rutland. They had a further three children all of whom were born in Beeston - Ernest b.1901, Nora Kathleen b.1908 and Linda May b.1910.

In 1901, they lived at 17, Dagmar Grove, Beeston. Percy had dropped his surname Thorley and listed on the census as Percy Pilmore

In 1911, the family lived at Denison Street, Beeston, Arthur is 34 yrs of age and is a joiner, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 36 yrs and their children, Percy 13 yrs a butchers assistant, Ernest 10 yrs, Nora 3 years and Linda 11 months old

In 1913, Percy's young brother Ernest died aged 12..

Military history

Percy Pillmore enlisted at Nottingham he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, landing in France on 17th August 1915 . He died of wounds at 17th Field Ambulance on 9th March 1916, he is buried at Poperhinghe New Military Cemetery, Grave Reference 1.F.27

Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 9th March 1917 : -

“PILLMORE. – In loving memory of our dear sons, Corpl. Percy Pillmore, killed in action, March 9th, 1916; also Ernest, who died January 16th, 1913, of Denison-street, Beeston. Ever in our thoughts. – Father, mother, sisters.”
