Ernest Hollingworth was born in 1889 at Stanton on the Wolds, Nottinghamshire he was the son of (John)William Hollingsworth a brick layers labourer and Harriet Hollingsworth née Clamp of 9 Portland Street, Beeston and the brother of Alfred, Arthur, Gertrude and George Hollingsworth.
His father William was born in 1868 at Beeston, his mother Harriett Clamp was born in 1869 at Keyworth, they were married C1891 and had 5 chidren.
In 1901, the family lived at 11, Victoria Terrace and in 1911 at 9, Portland Street (both Beeston Nottingham). In 1911 William 43 yrs is a brick layers labourer, he is living with his wife Harritt 42 yrs and their children, Alfred 16 yrs a lace jacker off, Arthur 14 yrs a tannery stripper, Gerty 12 yrs and George 10 yrs of age.
In the same 1911 census we find that Ernest has left the family and has joined the Army, he is serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery in barracks in Gibralter, he is 24 yrs of age and is single..
Gunner Ernest Hollingworth enlisted at Nottingham whist residing at Beeston, he served with the Royal Garrison Artilery he entered a theatre of war in France on 14th October 1914, so was either a regular soldier or a reservist recalled on the outbreak of hostilities. He was killed in action on 25th June 1917 and is buried at Athies Communal Cemetery Extension, Grave Reference: L 13
