Family history

William Chalk was born in 1886 at Beeston, he was the son of the late John William Chalk a railway labourer and Georgina Chalk née Duun. he was the brother of Mary, Olive, Henry, Sarah, Frederick and John Chalk who lived at 16 Humber Road Beeston Nottingham.

His father was born in 1853 he died in 1899 aged 46 yrs, his mother Georgina Dunn was born in 1858 at Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, they were married on 1st July 1883 at St John's Church, Beeston, they went on to have 7 children.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 16 Humber Road, Beeston, his widowed mother Georgina Chalk 53 yrs is living with her children, William Chalk is a visitor he is 26 yrs and is a telephoen examiner, also listed are her other children.

He was the husband of Fanny Williams born 21st September 1889 they were married in 1911 at Nottingham, and the father of Jessie William born 6th December 1908, Elsie May born 11th July 1910, William born 17th January 1912 and Fredrick Henry born 7th August 1914.

His widow was awarded a pension of 28 shillings and 9 pence a week commencing 9th April 1917,

His widow re married to Thomas Creighton on 20th April 1918 they lived at 52 Walker Street and later 12 Arrow Terrace, Fisher Street, Nottingham.

Military history

Private William Chalk enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 30th September 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Belgium
