Family history

Lewis Parry was born in 1896 the son of the late William a farm labourer and Charlotte Parry née Wood of Awsworth Nottinghamshire.

William Parry was born in 1859 at East Markham, he died in 1899 aged 42 yrs Charlotte Wood was born in 1870 at Radford, married on 20th October 1889 at East Markham, they had the following children, Samuel b1890, Henry b1891,William b1893 and Florence Jane b1898 all were born in Awsworth

Following the death of his father his mother Carlotte re married in 1908 to Thomas Statham a coal miner hewer they had two children, Louise Statham born 1908 andThomas Statham born 1910.

In the 1911 census the family are living at 33 Mansfield Road, Ilkeston, Thomas Statham 38 yrs is a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Charlotte 42 yrs and her 6 children, including Lewis 14 yrs a coal miner pony driver and Henry 20 yrs a coal miner loader, also living with them is Louis Stataham 3 yrs and Thomas 1 year of age.

Military history

Private Lewis Parry served with the 1st battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment he died of wounds on 6th July 1915 and is buried at Trois Arbres Cemetery grave reference 2.Q.36

Extra information

his brother Sapper Henry Parry enlisted at Ilkeston, he initially served with the service number 17697 in the Sherwood Foresters regiment, he landed in France on 3rd June 1915. He died of gas poisoning on 4th February 1916 whilst serving with the 185th Tunnelling Company, Royal Engineers, he is buried in Becourt Military Cemetery 1.J.9
