He was the son of George and Nellie Parkin and the brother of George and Doris Parkin. In 1939, they lived at 6, Northumberland Street, St Ann's, Nottingham. George Parkin was killed in action 7/1/1943 (see his record on this site).

At 14.48, 14.50 and 15.16 hours on 20 May 1941, U-556 fired torpedoes at convoy HX-126 south of Cape Farewell and sank three ships, the Darlington Court, British Security and Cockaponset.
The British Security (Master Arnold James Akers) caught fire after she was hit and burned for three days until she sank in 57°14N/39°23W. The master, 48 crew members and four gunners were lost. (Courtesy of uboat.net)
