Family history

He was the son of George and Annie Slater. In 1911, they lived at Watts Cottages, North Wingfield, Derbyshire. By 1921, they had moved to 40, Lodge Avenue, Armley and Bramley, Yorkshire. Francis Slater and Vera Annie Knighton were married in 1931 and they were to have three chilren, Audree, George and Joseph. In 1939, they lived at Lowdham with their daughter Audrey.

He was a navigator aboard Wellington X HE904 which collided with Wellington X3923 of the same unit during a training flight over Oxfordshire. No survivors. Fatalities: Slater + DJ Arneil, R Buffam, W Rose, DG MacNeil, WH Sayres, GAH Stevens.
