Lancaster III ND613 took off 1318 14 Aug 1944 from Elsham Wolds to bomb a strong point in the Normandy Battle Area. Cause of loss not established. No survivors. Fatalities: JPD Bartleet (P), C Barnes (FE), D McTaggart (N), FL James (W/Op), DS Armstrong (AB), K Chiles (AG), WK Jones (AG).

According to 103 Sqdn's ORB, 'Fifteen aircraft were detailed to attack the target which was a concentration of enemy troops and armour. Fromreports the raid seems to have been quite successful. Defence was in the form of light flak in the area and several crews were able to machine gun troops on the ground on the run out.' (ORB August 1945, Record of Events, TNA Air27/816/16). Fourteen 103 Sqdn crews returned safely from this operation.
