Newspaper article in the Newark Advertiser says he was married. Ancestry.com does not list a marriage but does list a child.

Military history

Killed during The battle of the Mareth Line (20-26 March 1943) this was the Eighth Army's last major set piece battle in North Africa, and saw Montgomery force the Germans and Italians to retreat from their last significant defensive position in southern Tunisia.

Pte Smith named on the Newark parish Roll of Honour.
