22 March 1945 Lancaster ME372 227 Sqn Take off RAF Balderton 01:22 for the Erdolwerke refinery Hamburg , all contact lost at 05.30 when ME372 is believed to have ditched.

F/O Edward Whitechurch RNZAF - Son of Edward Robert and Lucy Jane Whitechurch; husband of Myra Whitechurch, of Mission Bay, Auckland, New Zealand. Was found washed ashore on Vejers Strand beach on 19/6/1945. The body was placed on a horse drawn carriage and taken to the farm of receiver of Wrecks Bloch Vejers where the inspection of the body by a medical officer was performed on 20/6. On 23/6 /1945 F/O Whitechurch was laid to rest in Mosevraa cemetery.
