Mulheim

Lancaster I ED692 took off 2231 22 June 1943 from Langar. Crashed near Cologne. No survivors. Fatalities: PG Herrin (P), P Mills (FE), WH Flatt (N), S Payton (W/Op), G Kleinberg (AB), R Bradshaw (AG), GAH Male (AG).

10 Lancasters from Langar were part of a 557 aircraft attack on Mulheim (Ruhr) on 23rd June 1943. Departing between 22.8 and 23.04, nine reached the target but ED692 was lost on the outward flight through the Cologne corridor. It proved a costly night for Bomber Command with 35 aircraft failing to return, two thirds of them Halifaxes and Stirlings.
