Lancaster I ED604 took off 19.23 12th Mar 1943 from Langar. Crashed near Bottrop where all were buried in the Parkfriedhof. No survivors. Fatalities: ME Doble (P), A Garden (FE), B Clitheroe (N), AH Linklater (W/Op), BL Litolf (BA), TJ Walker (AG), RS Carr (AG).
456 crews, 95 from 5 Group attacked Essen, the centre of enemy arms production, on March 12th 1943. Bombing conditions were excellent and post-raid reports suggested that substantial damage, particularly on the Krupps works, was caused. ED604, with an experienced crew, probably bombed before crashing.
