Hamburg

Lancaster I ED365 took off 1900 3 Mar 1943 from Langar. Crashed at Wedel 16 km W of Hamburg where all were buried 10 Mar 19443 in the Ohlsdorf district of the city. No survivors. Fatalities: P Evison (P), RWE Holley (FE), B Johnson (N),MG Delatorre (W/Op), WWW Walace (BA), LR Thompson AG), WE Cain (AG).

417 aircraft attacked Hamburg on 3rd March 1943 in good visibility. Seven Lancasters from Langar bombed between 21.34 and 21.29 at 16,000 to 20,000 feet. Some markers had landed on the town of Wedel on the River Elbe, 13 miles downstream from Hamburg attracting bombing of that town rather than the primary target – Hamburg. ED365 crashed near Wedel.
