MILAN WAR CEMETERY Coll. grave VI. E. 1-10.

Newly appointed squadron commander FGL Bain led 207’s nine aircraft contribution to a 5 Group attack on Turin on December 8th 1942. The Langar element took off between 1735 and 1751. Skies over the target were clear and bombing conditions should have been favourable but Bain and his crew aboard Lancaster R5570 EM-F were lost. ‘Precisely what happened... is unclear,’ observed Chris Ward, ‘but the wreckage ... was apparently found well to the east of the target area somewhere near Milan.’
