Son of Lawrence Hollis (KIA WW1 27/9/17 Belguim), and of Penelope Hollis nee Hage, nee Scott (Remarried 1919), of 38 Parliament, Newark, Nottinghamshire.

His father Lawrence Alfred Hollis DOW 27/9/1917 gun shot wound to the back and abdomen, he died from his wounds the same day. Buried, Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Poperinge, Belgium.
His half brother Wilfred Scott KIA Norway 1940
His step father died 1938 as a result of gas and wounds recieved in WWI.

Military history

Enlisted 26/9/1933. Promoted to Cpl 13/8/1939. The 1st Battalion was a Regular Army battalion stationed in the Far East on the outbreak of the Second World War. The battalion fought the Imperial Japanese Army in the Malayan Campaign in early 1942 and sustained heavy casualties, temporarily amalgamating with the 2nd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment to create the British Battalion which was, however, later captured after the Battle of Singapore and the men of both battalions remained as prisoners for the rest of the war. Killed by heavy Artillery fire.
