Hutson was the navigator aboard Halifax V LK958 which took off 1639 20 Jan 1944 from Holme-on-spalding Moor to bomb Berlin. It was shot down by Flak from 19,500 feet crashing 8 km SE of Oebisfelde probably near Lockstedt. Five fatalities: Hutson + George Corbell Ive, Arthur John Edward Raven, John Chapman Stones & Raymond Valentine Turner. Two of the crew survived and became POWs: Kenneth Cowan Buchan & Michael Frederick Curry. (rafcommands.com)

769 aircraft - 495 Lancasters, 264 Halifaxes and 10 Mosquiroes were involved. 35 aircraft - 22 Halifaxes and 13 Lancasters (4.6& of the attacking force) were lost. The target was completely obscured by cloud so accurate estimates of the raids success are difficult to establish. (MIddlebrook & Everitt, Bomber Command War Diaries p.p.465-466).
