Family history

He was the son of Robert Charles and Mary Eleanora Otter of Royston Manor, Hayworth. Lieutenant Otter formerly hunted with The Grove. His late father was for many years prominently associated with hunting, and also took a notable part in the public life of North Notts.

Educated at Marlborough, he afterwards went out to Kenya to stay with is sister, Mrs. J. W. Best, who has since returned to England. Her husband, Flying Officer J. W. Best, is prisoner of war in Germany.

The news that he had made the supreme sacrifice was received by his step-brother, Canon Anthony Otter, M.A., Vicar of Lowdham, Notts, with whom Lieutenant Otter made his home for some time. Another step-brother is Colonel Robin Otter, M.C., J.P., a member of East Retford Rural District Council,

Military history

At the beginning of the war, Lieutenant Otter returned to England to study land agency in Norfolk until he joined up as a private in the East Yorkshire Regiment. Subsequently he was awarded a commission in the K.R.R.C., and went out to the Middle, East about July of this year. It had been his intention, when returning to England from Africa, to go to Trinity College, Cambridge, but the war conditions made this impossible.
