He was the son of Jack and Annie Wharton and the brother of Dorothy, Edith, George and James Wharton. In 1939, they lived at 19, South Street, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. husband of Nellie May Wharton, of Kimberley. John Thomas Wharton and Nellie Cooper were married in 1940 shortly before his death. She later lived at Kimberley.
