He was the son of Robert (a coal miner) and Sarah Froggatt and the brother of Malissa and Hilda Froggatt. In 1911, they lived at 6, Nelson Street, Heanor, Derbyshire.
Ernest Froggett and Jessica Whitehead were married in 1929. They were to have three children - Joyce, Geoffrey and Ernest.

Ernest Froggatt died on 24 June 1944 at the age of 38 while being held as a Japanese Prisoner of War (POW). The Unit: He served as a tradesman/mechanic in the specific vehicle and equipment maintenance workshop assigned to the 21st LAA Regiment.Capture: Alongside his regiment, he was captured by Japanese forces in March 1942 during the fall of Java, Netherlands East Indies. Death as a POW: He survived over two years in camps charaterised by brutal captivity, slave labour, and severe disease, but passed away on 24 June 1944.
