P/O Beranek had reported his aircraft was disabled (reasons unknown) and was preparing to ditch in the Channel. Rescue flights and boats found no sign of the aircraft and it was believed to have been lost at sea. Whether the crew had seen the Le Leguer and Bay of Lannion and believed themselves over the Channel or turned inland is not known.
