Military history

CAMBRIDGE CITY CEMETERY Grave 14563

Robertson was the pilot of Halifax II BB316 which took off 2155 from Blyton, Lincolnshire for a Bullseye detail. It returned to base around midnight and while approaching with the starboard outer feathered made a steep turn to the rightlose height and crash at 0005 near Kirton in Lindsey village. The bomber burst into flames on impact and there were no survivors. Due to the severity of the crash, no precise cause could be ascertained but it is thought likely the inner starboard may have cut due to fuel shortage. (WR Chorley Bomber Command Losses, Volume 8, page 107)

Fatalities: Robertson (P) + Sydney Bird (AG) + Sydney John Chaplin (N) + William Mawrey Harvey (WOp), + Ronald Victor Spencer (AB) + Harold John Street (FE)
