He was admitted to RAF Hospital Halton on 31 January suffering with a haematoma of the thigh. He became dangerously ill on 8 February and was transferred to Nottingham General hospital. Further transferred to the Bosford County hospital Nottingham, he died of sarcoma of the left thigh.
