HMLCT 427

On June 7th, 1944, the British LCT-427, built in 1943 by Arrol & Co. and owned at the time of her loss by British Royal Navy sank after a collision with battleship HMS Rodney, off the Solent. LCT-427 was returning from Gold Beach, having delivered tanks in the D-day operation. All 12 crew lost their lives including Sub Lieutenant Frank Freeman from Nottingham. The wreck of LCT-427 was identified in 2011 by divers. She is broken in two pieces and is at a depth of 30 metres. (wrecksite.eu)
