The Gloucestershire Echo of 14th July 1945 reports that Warrant Officer John Campbell, aged 25, was killed along with one other in a road traffic accident a few miles from Nottingham on the Grantham to Nottingham road. Three other men were injured.
"They were found today by a policeman on cycle patrol, beside a badly damaged car and Army lorry.
Warrant Officer John Campbell (25), of the R.A.F., was dead, and Pte. A. Bellamy, of Navenby, Lincs., died a few hours later.
Three injured men detained in Nottingham General Hospital are Flying Officer Alan Sheffield, of High Street, Syston, Leicestershire; and Ptes Norman Drury and Fred Mincey, York and Lancaster Regiment, of Romford, Essex."
