KINGSWAY NEW CEMETERY A. V. 2591

Skegness Standard May 27th 1942:

Suicide by Drowning

The sad story of an airman who travelled from another part of the country to Skegness, where he took his own life while, apparently, ill and suffering from depression, was told to Mr. W. C. Howard, the Skegness district Coroner, on Friday. The inquest at the Skegness Court House was on Harry Barber (34), an A.C.2. in the R.A.F., whose home was at 6, Lime Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Notts. Robert McConnell, a sergeant in the R.A., said that at 1.40 p.m. on May 20th he was walking along the beach, opposite the North Shore golf course, when he saw a body at the edge of the water. The Coroner recorded a verdict of 'suicide by drowning while the balance of his mind was disturbed.'
