Accidentally shot by Private George William Christie at Boughton POW Camp (Camps No 633 and 656) Former Central Ordnance Depot. At the inquest before district corner Mr E G Warburton and a jury, Pivate Christie said he had been relieved from guard duty. On entering the latrines he passed Spieß who pushed his rifle aside, it slipped and on catching it, his finger caught the trigger firing one shot. Buried Retford East Cemetery, in Plot 3, Row 6, Grave 173, Cannock Chase, German Military Cemetery, Staffordshire.
