28/29 April 1942 Hampden Mark I AE426 408 Sqn Took off from RAF Balderton on a mission to Kiel crashed on Edward Mullers furniture factory at 49-51 Schleuburg, Neumunster at 02:35 with the loss of its crew. One of 88 aircraft involved in the attack. They faced strong flak and fighter opposition, which destroyed five Wellington bombers as well as the Hampden.

The crew of AE426 were buried along with the crew of Wellington Z1290 that crashed the same night at Neumunster local cemetery. 6 soldiers of the Sanitater Ersatz Abteilug 10 (Medical Unit 10) formed a German honour guard.
