He married Jessie May Kerr in 1940. In 1939 she was living with her parents at 3 Patterson Place, Mansfield and was working in a tin box factory. She married again in 1949 to Ralph King.

Military history

HMS Vortigern: a Destroyer.
On the 15th March 1942 she was on convoy protection duty off the Norfolk coast when they were attacked by E Boats. She was hit by torpedoes from E boat S-104. 110 lives were lost and 14 survived. The Cromer lifeboat "H F Bailey III" recovered 11 bodies from the sea.
