12/13 April 1942 Hampden AT120 408 Sqn Took off from RAF Balderton to bomb Essen, last heard on W/T by Heston at 04:20 believed to have ditched with the loss of the crew. 2 carrier pigeons from the aircraft arrived at lofts with coordinates but the life raft was swamped before rescue.
