Daughter of John William and Charlotte Mills nee Cree of Holme Lane, Winthorpe. Run-over by an RAF lorry at the junction of Lincoln and Winthorpe roads as she cycled back to Holme Lane, Winthorpe after taking back to Newark the dress she had worn for her confirmation at the village church the previous Sunday. “The accident ought never to have happened” said Coroner Norman, criticising the lorry driver for getting too close to the kerb. The driver was not prosecuted.
