Worked for Messrs Montague Burton Ltd (tailors)as a shop assistant. He worked at the Mansfield store aswell as the shop in Nottingham. In 1939 he was living in Retford and worked at the Burton's store there.

Only child of Harry and Ada Smith of 29 Stanley Road, Mansfield.

Military history

Enlisted in February 1940 with the Sherwood Forestes but died of appendicitis and peritonitis in May 1940.

Their only son Jack at the early age of 23.
Employed by Messers Montague Burton Ltd. Initially worked at the Market Place store at Nottingham and Retford. Joined the army in February 1940 (Sherwood Foresters) then transferred to a special company of signallers. Was taken ill with appendicitis and peritonitis and passed away at Derby Royal Infirmary on Saturday after an operation.
