10/11 January 1942 Hampden AE286 408 Sqn. Take off 16.37 from RAF Balderton part of 124
aircraft raid to bomb Wilhelmshaven. Crews reported good bombing but ground reports stated light raid with little damage and 6 injuries. AE286 was hit by Langeoog-based Marine Flak and 3./leichte Reserve-Flak-Abteilung 872 (Einsatz Wangerooge) between 20:53 and 20:55 hrs, crashed in sea near Wangerooge Island, Niedersachsenat at 20:58 hrs. Three Wellington’s and two Hampton’s were lost on the raid.
