Military history

Killed when his car collided with a telegraph post near Bleasby while on patrol.
Detailed with Leonard Hansard and John Galaway to visit the Home Guard posts around the Southwell area, leaving Southwell Drill Hall at 10am. Having visited Rolleston and Fiskerton, they headed for Bleasby at 10.50. 10 yards from Gipsy Lane the drivers side car door opened and John lost control of the car while attempting to close it. The car crossed the road and collided with a telegraph post, spinning and ending up in a dyke. John was thrown from the car and died from head injuries in the ambulance while travelling to Newark Hospital.

John Hibbard has an unmarked grave at Morton churchyard.
