Military history

14/15 December 1941 Hampden P5392 408 Sqn. Take off RAF Balderton part of a 3 aircraft
raid to bomb Cherbourg. Due to bad weather Cherbourg was not visible, attempts were made on Le Harve and Ostend without success.
Crashed on return 03.27 at New Farm, Longdown, Totton, Hampshire killing all crew. Only 3 sets of remains were found, with only 2 being identifiable. However 4 individual graves are located at Fawley All Saints Churchyard.
