10 October 1941 Wellington X9928 25 OTU took off and crashed 2 minutes later into a field of Grange Farm, Staple Lane, Balderton. At the time of the crash, the Wellingtons undercarriage had been raised when, without warning, the nose of the aircraft pitched down and before the situation could be rectified, the bomber hit anti aircraft obstruction poles in a field at the end of the airfield.
