Family history

Son of Cecil Arthur and Florence Ethel May Miles of 23 Meadow Avenue, Mansfield. Cecil was a newspaper editor.
Siblings: Ronald Cecil Dennis born 1916 and Audrey F.M. born in 1919.
Terry married Nancy Sales in 1941. In 1939 Nancy was living with her parents, John and Anne at 76 Gladstone Street, Mansfield and she worked in the hosiery trade. In 1948 Nancy married Lionel Wilson.

Military history

The 5th Bn had fought in North Africa before taking part in the invasion of Italy in 1943. The Grenadier Guard battalions took part in the landings at Salerno, and the battles of Monte Cumino, Anzio and Monte Cassino.
The Americans took Rome on the 10th June 1944 but the German 10th Army escaped and inflicted heavy losses on the Allied forces as they withdrew north.
