Died at Newark Emergency Hospital, Bowbridge Road after being taken ill, he had been arrested for being absent without leave in Newark. Subsequently it was found he had taken an overdose of aspirin from a bottle hidden in his coat.

Inquest held 29/8/1941 Coroner Norman heard evidence from his mother and wife that he had been unhappy in the Army. Verdict suicide.
