In 1921 Wallace was working has a horse driver aged 17. When he married in 1928 he was a shop manager and later was a district manager for the Trust Supply & Trading Co, a credit management company.
He had been part of the Boy's Brigade and an ARP warden.

Son of Edward and Sarah Jane Johnson of 2 Dale Street, Mansfield. The family were originally from Staffordshire. In 1911 they were living in Doncaster but by 1921 they had moved to 2 Dale Street, Mansfield.
Siblings: Thomas (1885), David (1890), Kate Amy (1892), Leonard (1894), Wiliam H (1895), Albert Edward (1898), Sidney (1900), Athur (1902) and Miriam (1907).
On 23rd June 1928 he married Alice Williams at St Edmund's Church Mansfield Woodhouse. At the time of their marriage Wallace was living at 2 Dale Street and working has a shop manager and Alice was a mill worker.
They had 4 children, Alan 19/11/1929, ann in 1933 and the twins, Peter & Paul in 1939.
He was based at RAF Hixon in Staffordshire. This station was only about 2 to 3 miles from where he was killed.

The many friends of L.A.C. Wallace Johnson of 14 Sandhurst Avenue, Mansfield will deeply regret to learn of his tragic death at the age of 39. He was the victim of a road accident while cycling near Stafford last Thursday when his cycle and a motor vehicle were in collision and L.A.C. Johnson received fatal injuries. He had been home on leave only a few days earlier. His untimely end is all more regrettable because he leaves a widow and four young children.
Prior to joining the RAF some two years and 3 months ago. Mr Johnson was employed as a district manager for the Trust Supply Co.
He had taken an active part in the Boys Brigade. During the early part of the war he was a member of the ARP South 2/post. He was the youngest of 8 sons of Mr E Johnson and the late Mrs Johnson. Seven sons served between 1914 and 1918, 6 in the Army and 1 in the Navy.
The funeral took place on Wednesday at St Peter's Church. Representives of the deceased's RAF squadron and the local ARP post attended the fumeral.

Mrs Alice Johnson of 14 Sandhurst Avenue, Mansfield was awarded damages totalling £4,816 in the respect of her husband, L.A.C. Wallace Johnson of the RAF in a road accident against Alfred Hill of Rochdale.
On January 6th 1944 L.A.C Johnson was cycling along London Raod towards Little Haywood, Staffs when Harold Hill driving one of the defendants' lorries ran into him. He died shortly after admission to Stafford Hospital.
The widow was left with four children including five year old twins. The deceased was stated to be employed by the Trust Supply & Trading Co of Manchester at a weekly wage of £6 7s 6d and commission and had prospected of earning £500 a year. Mt Justice Lewis said he had disregarded the amount of pension the widow was receiving on assessing the damages.

The award of £4,816 to Mrs alice Johnson in the respect of the death of her husband, Wallace Johnson was challenged in the Court of Appeal by Mr Albert Hill of Horescroft Farm, Whitworth Rochdale. The award under the Fatal Accidents Act would by reduced to "2750 and the total sum awarded would by £2816 instead of £4816.
