Based at Graveley. On a sortie to bomb the Bosch Factory at Stuttgard. 583 aircraft in 2 waves two and half hours apart. 7 aircraft were lost in the raids.
They crashed at Witzenbach, all the crew died.

Sgt Flt Engineer Colin Johnson of the RAF, son of Mr & Mrs J T Johnson of 7 Waestfield Lane, Mansfield has been reported missing after a raid over Germany on October 9th. He has been serving in RAF for eighteen months, previously to which he was employed by Messrs Henstock of Chesterfield Road, Mansfield. Educated at St philip's School he was a member of C.Y.M.S and A.T.C

News has been received by Mr & Mrs Johnson of Westfield Lane, Mansfield that their son Flt Sgt Colin Johnson who was reported missing a year ago may now be persumed to have been killed on an operational flight over Germany.
He was 19 years of age and was educated at St philip's R.C school, Mansfield being actively associated with St philip's Young Men's Society. Prior to joining the forces he was employed as a motor cycle engineer with Messrs W Henstock of Chesterfield Road.
