Family history
He was the son of Mrs. E. Shipley, 73, Mount Pleasant-road, Sheffield, and late of 53, London-road, Retford. He was the twin brother of Pte. John (Jack) Shipley, they had served together abroad.
Pte. G. V. Shipley and Pte. J. Shipley were born and brought up in Retford by their grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Hallam, from the age of five.
